Bill, Bronte, Freya & Sophie after the Week of Golf at Gunghalin Lakes

Sophie, Bill, Bronte and Freya Dunn played the Harvey Norman ACT Week of Golf at the Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club in Canberra from Jan 2 to 5. This high ranking tournament attracted a quality field from ACT, NSW, VIC, QLD, WA, TAS and New Zealand.

It proved to be a rather tricky course with some very tight fairways and lots of water to contend with. Conditions were good with the exception of a downpour on Day 3 that got Soph and Bill during their last few holes.

Over the 4 day tournament each junior had some success:

Bill had a tournament leading 3 under par 69 on Day 1 which was his equal personal best round. Unfortunately the remainder of the tournament was a battle with rounds of 77, 79, 78 to finish 22nd overall.

Bronte had a great Day 2 carding a 78 (6 over) which was 4 shots under her handicap. However her other rounds of 89, 84, 87 were marred with double and triple bogeys. She finished tied for 24th. Not bad for her first 4 day effort.

Freya’s first 4 Day Tournament:

This was also Freya’s first 4 day tournament and she handled it extremely well. Her best round was an 87 on Day 3 which was an amazing 9 shots better than her handicap of 24. Overall for the 4 days Freay was able to take the Nett titles across all girls, a title that takes some achieving considering their was a field of 38 young girls for the title.

Sophie had a slow start but a good finish shooting 2 under par for the last 36 holes despite the much tougher Day 3 & 4 pin placements. She finished 3rd overall with rounds of 74, 76, 70 and 72 (4 over in total) and won the runner up scratch trophy for 16/17 year old girls. Another great week for Sophie in what is a hectic schedule for her over the Xmas holiday period.

A promising start to the summer of competition golf!
