Important Notice for Members and Guests – Course Update

By Club News, Golf News

Dear Members and Guests, As a result of recent weather conditions, the Golf Course we remain closed until further notice.  Finally, the rain has stopped. 300mm of rain has been recorded over the past 14 days. Yesterday was is the first chance we have had to get a cut on the greens since in over a week, and we only able to get selected mowers out on the course in limited areas. Unfortunately, it is a waiting process for the course to dry out to get a cut on all surfaces, with a large parts of the course unable to be accessed  until next week. The decision has been made to keep the course closed until Monday next week. It will be a massive job to have the course back in the condition we all expect, so I thank everyone for their patience and hope to have you back out on the course next Monday. Due to the weather no irrigation work has commenced out on the golf course. Our irrigation contractors Waterland have been on site all week checking deliveries and electric welding pipe fittings indoors. We will continue to monitor the situation, and the course will remain closed until…

International Women’s Day 2022 – A Celebration of Women and our Female Club Presidency #IWD2022 #BreakTheBias

By Club News, Golf News

At Club Catalina, we are proud supporters of International Women’s Day! Today, we take this special opportunity to celebrate our Female Members and Guests, Women in Golf, Women in our broader Community, and our very own Club President, Cathie Flynn. It is our absolute privilege to share Cathie’s Story with you this International Women’s Day: “As you know, International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8th March. It is a date to celebrate how far women have come in society, politics and in economics. Club Catalina’s ‘Women in Golf’ is also indicative of this journey. To help celebrate this day, I was asked to write my story as Catalina’s first female President and to show Club Catalina’s appreciation and support for ‘Women in Golf’. In 2020 Club Catalina celebrated 100 years of history. It was clear from the 1920 pictures obtained for that period, 100 years ago, women were already participating and enjoying the wonderful game of golf. Unfortunately, at that time, ‘Women in Golf’ were not allowed to become full members but were classed as Associate members and as such did not have the same rights as their male counterparts. When I joined the Club in 2010, Club Catalina had…

Round 1 Pennant Report 20-02-2022

By Golf News

Catalina’s division 1, 2 and Seniors Pennant Teams appeared to be doing it easy at the halfway mark with our Seniors leading in all 5 matches, on top in 3 matches and square in 2 in Division 2. Division 1 were not out of it although behind 2 and 3 after 9 holes, but the second nine was a different matter and we seemed to struggle on the way in. There is a delay in receiving the results for Division 1, unfortunately there was a rules infringement, not by our team, the infringement is being investigated by the Exec Committee, so as soon as a decision is made on matter you will be notified. Division 2 Captain Col Wakelam was a standout for our best on the day with a powerhouse display of big hitting overwhelming his opponent. Col was 5up at the turn and finished his round in style winning his match 5 & 4 and everyone was aware of the situation as the quietly spoken Col made sure we all new how he went, well done Colin. Division 2’s Wayne Adam Squared his match to give Moruya a three and a half to one and a half win….
