Sophie Eppelstun has completed her Summer of Golf in amazing fashion!

By winning the Catalina Club, Club Championship, Sophie qualified to represent the Club at the NSW Champion of Champions.

This is an event where all Club Champions from across the State are invited to compete for the State Title.

The event held over 36 holes across one day, so it was always going to be a true test of stamina on an extremely hot and humid day at the Manly Gold Coast.

Here’s how it played out…

Sophie got away to a less than ideal start on Monday morning with a couple of errant shots and not capitalising on the great shots she managed to hit into the greens.

Her game was in a solid state and as such she managed to sign for a 2 over par 75 for the morning round.

Leader of the field was Concord GC Member Grace Lee who shot a 3 under 70 for the morning round, placing 5 shots behind her heading into the final 18 holes.

The game-changing benefit…

The one benefit Sophie had in her corner was that she played with Grace for the entire 36 holes so heading into the final round she knew where she stood in relation to the leader.

Sophie came out in the final and her game came alight.

The birdie putts started to roll in and upon the completion of the round she had amassed 6 birdies and a lone bogey signing for a 6 under par, 67.

This was only good enough to tie Grace who signed for her second consecutive sub par round.

The two headed down the first playoff hole and after both parred this they headed to the second.

Sophie was faced with a 16 foot putt for the win and calmly drained it to take the title.

A great result and great reward for effort by this talented young golfer!
